Hansel and Gretel: A Fairy Tale with a Down Syndrome Twist (Fairy Ability Tales)

Hansel and Gretel: A Fairy Tale with a Down Syndrome Twist (Fairy Ability Tales)

Hansel & Gretel: A Fairy Tale with a Down Syndrome Twist is an enchanting tale about how kindness overcomes callousness and leads to a wondrous reward. This adaptation of the classic Grimms' tale includes the wicked witch and the poor siblings in search of food, but in this case, five-year-old Hansel is a mischievous, yet courageous, boy with Down syndrome. Young readers will learn that:Children with Down syndrome are capable and can achieve extraordinary success with determination. An act of kindness can transform people and the world. Treating people like family can create a miracle. People cannot be judged by appearance; a princess or a hero can be hidden within. Facing a challenge can lead to unimagined rewards. "I love that this book addresses not only the low expectations that society has of kids with Down syndrome but that the Mother has as well. What a gifted author to see past the diagnosis and tell a magical story of potential and belief!" --Nancy Gianni, Founder & Gigi's Mom, GiGi's Playhouse: Down Syndrome Achievement Centers "I find that Jewel Kat's message that someone's disability is not what makes a person, a great one. I like how she portrayed Hansel. He reminded me of my nephew who had Down syndrome-not only someone who was kind but also very smart. I believe it's a great book for every kid to read." --Janet McNevin, Museum of disABILITY History "Hansel shines as a courageous boy with incredible determination despite his challenges and succeeds in changing his family's circumstances. This story would help young readers look beyond disabilities and focus on the characters of those who have special needs. Claudia's breathtaking illustrations take this beloved tale to a whole new level. A must read for children of all ages." --Shaila Abdullah, author,My Friend Suhana: A Story of Friendship and Cerebral Palsy Learn more at www.JewelKats.com Book #5 in the Fairy Ability Tales Series Juvenile Fiction: Social Issues - Special Needs

The Strange Ways of Providence In My Life: A Holocaust Survivor Story (World War 2)

Happy childhood, horrors of war and miraculous rescue of the only child survivor from Obertyn.

Krystyna Carmi's childhood was full of happy moments in the family house. Her childhood was filled with friends, both Polish and Ukrainian girls, that played games with her. She attended a Ukrainian school, participated in school celebrations; she lived a normal, everyday life. In her memoire, published after many years of silence, Krystyna Carmi shows the history of her family and her life.
The book contains more than 100 pictures, taken by Krystyna’s father, a professional photographer, and sent it to their family in Israel before the war.
Krystyna was gifted with an amazing memory and as such was able to recall the atmosphere of those days, describing in details the appearance of a household; and if that wasn’t enough, Krystyna Carmi writes about something very rare, the smells she remembered from childhood. Walking with her on the streets of pre-war Obertyn, we get to know the Jews, the Ukrainians, and the Poles and the social and material conditions of their lives, as well as their names and surnames. Krystyna Carmi paints a psychological portrait of these people; she writes about how they dressed, what they ate, what their attitude towards others was, and above all, towards God. She writes about things seemingly trivial, however when looking back, they are incredibly significant.
But the happy childhood did not last long. The first days of war brought overall fear and panic, the entrance of Red Army soldiers to Obertyn, the arrest of Polish patriots, liquidation of Jewish shops, the gradual growth into a more difficult reality of occupation, the Hungarian army in Obertyn, Jews murdered by Ukrainians in the local towns, incredible photos of the members of the Jewish community, drowning in the Dniester by Ukrainians.
However, the worst was still ahead of the Jewish community in Obertyn and her family. First, the Germans, then the Kołomyja ghetto. She was with her parents as well as her maternal and paternal grandfathers. The life conditions in which Obertyn Jews had to live are described in the poem Molasa ”" Ghetto Sweets; she shows in a fictile, detailed way, psychophysical suffering caused by hunger.
People died in the ghetto because of hunger and physical exhaustion; their bodies were collected on a platform. These deaths do not escape the attention of a sensitive and suffering girl, who years later will write a poem with the title In Remembrance of Innocently Suffering People of Different Ages and Sexes from Kołomyja Ghetto; a picture of the platform will stay in her memory forever. "The open mouth and eyes of these human corpses have been hunting me all my life."
Then she returned from the ghetto with her parents, and escaped from Obertyn, following by her sisters’ death, which she described in a very suggestive way in her poems: Black Kamionka Forest. Part I Testimony and Black Kamionka Forest. Part II Curse). Her parents’ death, hiding, hunger, thirst, fear for life, then indifference as time goes by because life is hard. It would be easier to part with the world, but The Strange Ways of Providence in her Life has chosen for her to live, to be. This is how you could present in short, the content of Krystyna Carmi’s memoire.
The memoire are interspersed with the cover of Doctor Markus Willbach, a friend of the Sorger family to emphasize the authenticity of Krystyna Carmi’s (maiden name: Sorger) memories as the images, situations, and events witnessed by her as a little girl coincide with Doctor Willbach’s account, an adult at that time.

Biography

Krystyna was born in Obertyn, Poland. Her father was a photographer by profession. Initially, she attended a Ukrainian school in Obertyn. Further education was interrupted by the war, when the town was under the management of the Ukrainian and German Nazis and Krystyna, as a 9 year old girl, was exiled with her family and all other Jews from Overtyn to the ghetto in Kołomyja.

The life conditions in which Obertyn Jews had to live are described in the poem Molasa - Ghetto Sweets; she shows in a fictile, detailed way, psychophysical suffering caused by hunger. People die in the ghetto because of hunger and physical exhaustion; their bodies were collected on a platform. These deaths do not escape the attention of a sensitive and suffering girl, who years later will write a poem with the title In Remembrance of Innocently Suffering People of Different Ages and Sexes from Kołomyja Ghetto; a picture of the platform will stay in her memory forever. "The open mouth and eyes of these human corpses have been hunting me all my life...

Then she escaped from the ghetto with her parents. Her sisters were murdered and her parents executed.
After the loss of her entire family she was adopted in 1944 by the family Gaczyńskich who took care of her further education. In March 1945, when the Ukrainian Bandera increased persecution of Poles, including Kolomyja, Gaczyńskich family agreed to return to their homes in Brzesko. Krystyna moved to Jordanow home for orphans, called "Our House", where she attended High School, which ends in 1951.

Since 1958 Krystyna lives in Israel. In 1997 she established a small library located in the Polish belonging to the Franciscan church, St. Peter monastery in Jaffa. Her contact with the Polish book memoirs that soothe the longing for the homeland - indeed, as she says has two Homeland - Poland and Israel.
She is married with 2 children and 5 grandchildren.

Her poems were published in local journals in Poland:
"Echo Jordanowa" (Bible Society of Friends of the Earth Jordanów), March - April 1996 years No. 20; Religion poem,
School newspaper, "What's the matter," Pulawy No. 2/98 (6) Charming rows like a dream, Ash Wednesday in the Holy Land and the memories of school days in high school school in Jordanow.
(P. 27 - 32 of that magazine)
"Source" Weekly Catholic Families, Kraków, Bielsko - Biala, Rzeszow, Sosnowiec, No. 30 (239) July 28, 1996, contains a poem Meeting in the Garden.

Polish:
Pochodzi z tzw. Pokucia.

Piotra i klasztoru w Jafie. Jej kontakt z polską książką to wspomnienia, które łagodzą tęsknotę za Ojczyzną - zresztą, jak sama mówi ma dwie Ojczyzny - Polskę i Izrael.

jej wiersze i wspomnienia publikowano w lokalnych pismach:
"Echo Jordanowa" (Pismo Towarzystwa Miłośników Ziemi Jordanowskiej), marzec - kwiecień 1996 rok Nr 20; wiersz Wyznanie,
Gazetce szkolnej "O co chodzi", Puławy Nr 2/98 (6), wiersze Czarowna jak sen, Popielec w Świętej Ziemi oraz wspomnienia z czasów szkolnych w liceum Ogólnokształcącym w Jordanowie
( s. 27 - 32 wspomnianej gazetki),
"Źródło" Tygodnik Rodzin Katolickich, Kraków, Bielsko - Biała, Rzeszów, Sosnowiec , Nr 30 (239) 28 VII 1996, zamieszczono wiersz Spotkanie w Ogrodzie.

This is the story of a Holocaust survivor, Krystyna Carmi is the only child survivor from all the Jewish children of Obertyn, and now after many years, she had the courage to reveal, describe and publish the tragic facts about her and her family. In this book she tells of the tragedy that befell her and her family when she was very young.
They say that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. It is my hope that this book will teach others of the horrors of WWII and insure that they are never repeated again.

Another great Terry Treetop book by Tali Carmi. In this book Terry meets some bears in the springtime. There was a lot of information about what bears do in the winter and spring all wrapped up in a cute little story. My daughter enjoyed the story and the discussions we had about bears. She also loved the colorful pictures. I liked the fact that Terry showed some common sense and never had any physical contact with the bears.
We found this book to be a fun new adventure for Terry Treetop.

The Wisdom and Peace of the Teachings of the Tao Te Ching: a modern, practical guide, plain and simple

This book has been translated into English more times than any other book but the Bible

Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching (or Way of Life) is one of the most cherished books ever written- a living treasure. In eighty-one short chapters, Lao Tzu left us with a manual for living. He was able to dissect and address the essential questions and dilemmas of existence and guide us through them to a life of understanding, cooperation, compassion and inner peace.
The translation in your hand is a modern, simplified interpretation. One that updates the ancient language to a more modern understanding, yet without touching the spirit of Lao Tzu’s timeless work, or altering his guidance towards working with the principles of the Universe, instead of against them.

Over a fifteen hundred copies of this translation sold in one weekend!

  • So grateful to Dr Matt for writing this book, very enlightening. I have gone back to it again and again. - W. Wicker, Linden TN
  • Dr. Barnes' lovely book has helped me in this long trek that we all make alone, even as we try our best to love what there is to love, and to find our center, even as the ground slips beneath our feet. - Janet DiDonato
  • So many people suffer from what they consider to be "stressful" lives. Here is a book that will help the reader deal with whatever life throws his way. It is thought provoking and much easier to read than the title would lead one to think. I fully enjoyed reading it and am glad to have received it as a gift. I am ordering another to give as a gift. Many people would benefit from experiencing this read. - C. Catherwood, NC

A wonderful modern Translation of Lao Tzu’s work. I found this to be a nice simple translation of the Tao that allows the reader to understand and delve deeper into its philosophies than other translations I have read.

Great Spanish lessons! I was asked to do a test and review of this program and to give my honest opinion of the results. Having spent some time in Peurto Rico I actually know a little Spanish, so I can happily tell you that this program does a good job of breaking down the lessons into quick and easy to understand pieces. I am quite happy with this program and will probably use it to teach my daughter Spanish once she can read proficiently.

A Year Without Food: Discover the unimaginable world of proven energetic nourishment

Can spirit really come over matter?

Can human life be sustained without food or on imaginable small quantities? The both scientifically researched and spiritual explained answer is in this book, but you will have to put aside many of today's current paradigms once you realize and feel the compelling evidence.

After years of spiritual development, in search of a higher understanding of our path, Ray Maor decided to take the ultimate consciousness leap. Trusting in just the air to catch him, he undertook the dangerous but transformative Breatharian initiation. The air carried him far.

As his soul and his body settled into this astounding way of living off the energy of Prana, he decided to go further again. In a world first television broadcast, he agreed to go for eight days without not just food, but water as well – while his every movement was filmed.

The Israeli film crew set up comprehensively ‘big brothered’ living quarters with no privacy – at all, at any time! A senior medical specialist was brought in to review Ray every day. As well as mental state evaluation and a physical examination, bloods were taken daily. The doctor only agreed on the basis that he could make the final decision to abort the experiment if Ray was in danger. In line with current medical teaching, the doctor was confident that Ray would not survive more than a handful of days before dehydration caused his organs to begin to shut down.
This book is not just Ray’s personal account of this remarkable experiment.

From his uniquely Breatharian perspective, Ray shares his greater journey in order to promote our understanding of our spiritual-mental connection to our physical body.
If you are looking to float to new heights in your spiritual journey this book is for you. Ray’s insights will change the way you think about the world you live in. He dismantles the very foundations of how we think it all works ...

You will discover how some of your greater paradigms our broken, and the book will reshape the way you view reality.

'It is not my wish for people to stop being nourished from food, it is my goal to open up their consciousness to the fact that they are already being nourished energetically in a perfect manner and have them relearn and relive their eating and drinking experience a new, higher awareness point of view of excitement and self-love'

I was asked to read this book and to give my honest opinion of it. It was definitely an interesting read. I found it to be very spiritually inspiring. I am always interested in learning more about the religions of the world, while this isn't something that I would personal be implementing there are some good lessons that one can insert into their lives to hopefully make a change for the better.

Tiffys Terrible Top Hat: Mean Girl Bully Learns a Lesson

Twelve year old Tiffany Rinks is a beauty queen, talented, smart and the school bully. She spends her days terrorizing the other kids. But it looks like the tables have been turned. Now she is the victim of a cruel joke.

Can she unravel the cause of her torment? Or will her bullying and lies cause the loss of her most prized possession?

Some lessons are only learned the hard way. For Tiffy, it looks like this might be a very hard lesson.

Scroll up and click the buy now button to get your copy of Tiffy's Terrible Top Hat.

Will Tiffy learn her lesson? I was asked to read and review this book and to give my honest opinion of it.
It's not often that you come across a book with a main character that you don't like. But Tiffy has managed it. Not only is she a Bully (the odd thing is that she knows she's a Bully, Most Bullies don't realize that they are Bullies.) She also managed to become a liar  and a thief on her "Terrible Day"  She ends up stealing a magical hat which teaches her lots of lessons the hard way. The ending leaves a prequel opportunity open, but I found it to be kind of odd and I didn't really like it.
In the end Tiffy learned her lesson, and that's the important thing.

Childrens book :The Magical Jump of Smallfridge (bedtime story) Kids books      (Ages 4 - 9)

Imagination can take us anywhere ... anywhere on earth and anywhere in space. Join Smallfridge on a flight of imagination as he discovers the wonders that await him ... in the universe and right here at home at bedtime.Intended for children of all ages.

A wonderfully fun children's book! I received a copy of this book for reviewing purposes. my four year old daughter loved this book, almost every page spurs a discussion on what is going on in the pictures, and story. What does she think about this or that. Why is he making red crayons? I really loved this story about the use of your imagination. I used it as a wonderful learning tool. Because it spawns so many conversations, I can see this quickly become a favorite it's sad that it is only available in electronic format. The only bad thing I can think of about this book is that it condones jumping on the bed, so we had a discussion about that.I would definitely recommend this book if you enjoy conversations with your child.

Children's book: The Healthy Me Team: A Battle of Vitamin and Mineral Against Artificial Colors and White Sugar (Eat Healthy Fruits & Vegetables and Avoid Junk Food Book 1)

Want your kids to eat more fruits and vegetables?

Want them to eat fewer snacks?

The Healthy Me Team is a full rhymed story about vitamins and minerals that fight artificial colors and white sugar in our kids' body.

"Whenever they met it was a real battle:
White sugar not letting the mineral settle,
Protein fights but is pushed away,
Has no chance to even stay!"
This is a wonderful book about a boy and his sister that illustrates the battle in our body when we don't eat healthy food. Our boy needs to grow and become stronger but his choices of eating make the little creatures (protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals) inside him weak.
Will they win the battle of artificial colors and white sugar?
Will the boy be able to grow and make the right choices?

This beginner reader’s eBook will inspire your kids to make the right nutrition choices:

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Eat less unhealthy snacks
  • Exercise more
Your kids will enjoy full-color illustrations of vitamins, minerals, calcium, artificial colors, white sugar and more.
The Healthy Me Team is a sweet children's book written especially for you and your ages 2- 8 children, with rhymed text and 20 colorful illustrations.
The story is suitable as a read aloud book for preschoolers or a self-read book for beginner readers .

I received a copy of this book for review purposes. I like the idea and premises behind the book, Vitamins and Minerals fighting the good battle against White sugar and Artificial colors. It sounds like a great story, and it probably could have been if the author hadn't decided to make it into a poem.
My four year old daughter loved the pictures and I was able to engage her in discussion about the pictures, but she quickly lost interest in the story because it didn't make sense to her. From a literary point of view, I understood what the author was doing and understood what was happening in the story, but it just went over the head of my daughter.

Children's Book : Leo SuperHero - A Sunday Morning Adventure (Great bedtime story for kids) (Motivation Book) (Ages 4-9)

Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone Loves A Hero October 11, 2013
By prisrob TOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Everyone loves a hero. There are heros and then there are SuperHeros. Heros are admired for their brave acts. Superheroes have extraordinary abilities to help humans. What we have in this book is a SuperHero.

Leo is seven years old and the kind of SuperHero we would all like to be. He loves his family, his mother, father and his cat, Milkshake. Leo's mom made him a SuperHero outfit, gloves, a motorcycle helmet and a baseball bat. Leo loves to wear his SuperHero outfit. On this Sunday morning, Leo's cat wakes him up by licking his face, it tickles. Leo knows this means that Milkshake has found something that needs attention. And, indeed attention needs to be paid immediately. Something is lost and Leo and Milkshake use their powers and their thinking caps to help out.

The lesson we learn in this story is that the ability to be a SuperHero is in all of us. We just need to be the best people we can be and to be helpful and loving. This book about Leo and the SuperHero is so well written, it does not talk down to children, the book includes everyone. TheBrothers, are the authors of this book. They have children and wanted books for them that would be a good learning experience. The illustrations are colorful and distinctive. This book leaves us feeling happy and good about ourselves.

From the Author

One night  while covering my kids to go to sleep, he asked me how can he become a superhero.
I answer him the a superhero is not someone that climb on building (like spider man) or saving the world. A superhero can be even someone that make a good deed....
The same night I sat down and started to write this story. I created Leo, his sister and even milkshake in a away that every kid can say "Wowow.." he is a really superhero.
Enjoy.
Anyone can be a Superhero. I was asked to read and review this story and to give my honest opinion. I thought this book was a cute book about a boy who gets to be a superhero. He has a superhero outfit and everything. I love the fact that the outfit looks exactly like what a child would put together, not some fancy get up like Movie heroes wear. My daughter loved the cat's name. She thought a cat named Milkshake was hilarious.
I liked the way Leo used light refraction to look into the mouse hole, but that was the only real learning experience in the book. When I read that I kept waiting for another good learning lesson to talk to my daughter about to show up. Sadly it didn't happen. We enjoyed the pictures and overall enjoyed the book.

Children's Book : I Wish I Had Visited the CN Tower

Second Fixed Edition

Get to know the World

Great book for kids

If you ever wanted to visit the CN Tower come and join us on a magical adventure of photos and facts.

A wonderful book for children who want to learn

I thought this book was very informative, I learned a lot about the CN Building. Including the fact that this building exists at all. I'm afraid I am not well educated in world architecture. That being said, my four year old wasn't interested in this book at all. She is still very much into bright colors and cartoon animations. The cover art has a little boy in a backpack so I was hopeful that it would draw her attention, sadly he only appears on the cover. I'll try reading it to her again in a few months, maybe she'll enjoy it more then.

Beltane: Ten Tales of Witchcraft

Ten witchcraft stories by ten authors, edited by Rayne Hall

If you meet a witch, will you know if they're the kind or the evil sort? If you hear about someone practising witchcraft, how do you judge if their magic is real? If rumours spread through your neighbourhood or mass hysteria sweeps through your community, will you be able to keep a clear head? If the only way to solve your problem is by resorting to witchcraft, will you desist or give it a try?

In this book, all the witches are real. They practice different kinds of witchcraft: Traditional, Stregheria, Santeria, Wicca and more. Some are good, some are evil, and others are in between, so beware of jumping to early conclusions.

Ten authors share their visions of witches and witchcraft, and each tells their story in a different writing style. To reflect the authors' individual voices, you will find both American and British English words and spellings in this book.

See which story of these ten resonates most with you. Enjoy the tales - but be warned: these witches may not be what they seem.

1. AN ACCIDENTAL WITCH by Liv Rancourt
A little harmless magic nearly turns into more than this Wiccan can handle.

2. ALBA by Karen Heard
In a race against the clock, will Sgt. Taylor discover the witch behind the murders at Bindings Wood?

3. BY THE PRICKING OF MY THUMBS by Jonathan Broughton
Hell hath no fury like a witch scorned.

4. THE CAT MAIDEN by Mertianna Georgia
This kitty cat is a lot more than what she seems.

5. THE MAY LADY VANISHES by Pamela Turner
A missing witch may tear this coven apart.

6. HANGING WITCH OF PAINTER MOUNTAIN by Lawrence Barker
On Painter Mountain, your lust for life or death is measured.

7. THIRTEEN STEPS by Debbie Christiana
The past returns, seeking justice.

8. FOUR BONY HANDS by Rayne Hall
Nasty things sometimes come in small packages.

9. MISHMASH MAGICK by Carole Ann Moleti
Surviving in The Bronx requires new ways of doing things.

10. LOVE MAGICK by Debra Dunbar
Sometimes magic will only show you what was there all along.

This is a compilation book of ten different authors and as such the writing styles and ability vary greatly. I was tempted to stop reading after the first story but I persevered and was rewarded by a wonderful second story. While I didn't like all the stories in this book I've found that I rarely do like all the stories in compilations like this one. This book gives a good introduction to ten different authors, go ahead and give it a chance. You might find a new favorite author.

By Grady Harp TOP 50 REVIEWER
                    ------------------
"Tali Carmi has created a little well illustrated and written book for bedtime stories for children. It is simple, fun, entertaining and carries some fine lessons for children to sleep on!... In addition to the story, children learn friendship lessons and more about the products of the friends Terry meets - a special bonus for eager listeners. It is a fun little story, very well illustrated".

This beginner readers' eBook Series will motivate and inspire your kids to be active about the things they want to achieve in life, and not to give-up on their quest for love and happiness.
Your kids will enjoy full colorful illustrations of Terry and the animals he met.

We were asked to read and review this book and give our honest opinion. This was a cute book, and I was able to have conversations with my daughter on where honey, wool, milk,  ect. comes from. I also talked with her on how Adults can't always drop everything that they are doing in order to play with kids. I can't say that I really found an over all moral to the story, but I was able to use it as a learning opportunity. My daughter enjoyed the book, but it wasn't her favorite. It was interesting to read the first Terry Treetop book as we have read later books already.

This is the first Bash and Lucy book that we have read and we really enjoyed it. I loved the way Lisa Cohn made it easy to talk to my four year old about jealousy and different ways to handle the emotions that go with it. My daughter was astounded when I told her that a little boy helped write the book.
I found the book to be well written and inspiring, a story that can help my daughter overcome the negative feelings associated with jealousy.
We were asked to review this book and give our honest opinion.

My daughter was super  excited to see a new Abigail book in our kindle reading list this morning. We were given a copy of this book for reviewing purposes.
Tali Carmi did it again! My four year old loves the Abigail series! This time little Abigail takes a magical bike trip to the North Pole. There are a ton of learning discussion opportunities in this book, igloos, ice fishing, polar bears, Oh My! I absolutely loved the fact that the word "Eskimo" wasn't used a single time! The Inuit people don't call themselves that, but so many writers put it in stories. Hooray for Tali!
Also Abigail now has control over the bike, so she won't have to wait to go to her grandparent's house for her next great adventure, we can't wait!

We received a copy of this book to review, so my four year old sat down and read it together. She really loved the fact that the book had dolphins in it and I loved the lessons on personal and animal safety. I was really happy that when the little dolphin got into trouble Terry didn't immediately dive in and try to fix the problem himself. He recognized that there was danger involved and sought out a grownup to help. For a little book it was sure full of great lessons. I think it is a great read.

Another Abigail Adventure! My four year old loved this book as well. I liked that it went a little deeper into daily life in the desert. (the need for water) I got to explain what an Oasis was and my daughter is currently wondering around the house with a pot on her head pretending to bring water to her village. I found the pictures fun and engaging, and my daughter enjoys repeating the magic rhyme that Abigail says to go on adventures. A fun little story, my daughter can't wait for the next one.

Through this book we were able to learn more about the Amazon jungle and some of it's creature inhabitants.( She wanted to see a real toucan, so we looked up toucans online.) A simple little book with fun imagery, it stirred my daughter's imagination and left her wanting more.

Hippochondriac

This is the story about a baby hippo that was called Hippochondriac.
He was ABSOLUTELY SURE that he was dying, with every little
thing that came in flying.
This is a book meant for both beginner and advanced hypochondriacs :)

I was given a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I read this book twice in the hopes that I was missing something vital the first time. If I did I missed it the second time as well. I just didn't like it. There appeared to be a play on words attempt to be funny such as using the word "Cold" instead of the word "Called" which the first time through I took to be a typo. I went into this book expecting it to be a cute way to explain to my daughter that she wasn't going to die from a stubbed toe. I came out of the book with a headache and really confused about the middle. Maybe you have to have hypochondriac  tendencies in order to get this book? I don't know.

Children's book:

The Best Advice a Tubby Turtle Can Get

Toby is a cute, bright turtle, who loves to eat. He eats everything in sight, and the more he eats, the fatter he becomes. So fat, that his shell no longer fits his body.
His mom calls for help, and experts flock to advise and support the little turtle. Each one has his own unique solution. But none of them works.

When Toby has almost given up hope, he meets a wise old turtle who proposes a different approach. His proposal helps any boy or girl who wants to lose weight to succeed.

This amusing story helps children to comprehend that there are no magical solutions to real problems and that the right way is not always the easiest.

At the end of the story there are some fun food ideas which the young reader can enjoy making. Each one is a unique, illustrated recipe for creating and serving healthy food.

I was given a copy of this book to rate and review. I did enjoy this book and appreciate that it is trying to tackle the sensitive subject of obesity in children I just kept being distracted by the awkward meter of the book. My four year old kept remarking on the fact that the lines didn't rhyme. I had to reread the book to her several times before she was able to focus on the moral of the story, but once she got it, she really got it. Perhaps an older child will savvy on to it quicker. In the meantime I am hoping that it has given my daughter some good ideas on more appropriate eating habits.
